Ayven turned 12 months and was so ready for daycare…but the question was, were my husband and I ready for him to go to daycare? Going from a full time nanny to a school full of other kids, germs, new faces, new food…you name it. We were nervous but knew it was the best thing for him and can happily say it was the best decision we made. Mommas..I promise you, it’s a really good thing for them. They get exposed to so many different types of people, build social skills, vocabulary, have activities to do all day and best of all you will be amazed of how much better they nap with all their friends.
Looking for a new daycare is tough, taking into consideration all the emotions you have going through your head it’s so easy to forget simple questions that you wished you asked before you took the plunge. I have been keeping a bucket list of the questions my husband and I have asked while Ayven’s been in daycare and thought it may be helpful to parents to pass our list around. Check out the list below and print it up so you are prepared to ask your daycare questions.
Daycare Bucket List
Remember ask as many questions as you want, you are the one writing that huge check every month so you have a right to know anything and everything your heart desires.
If you see anything I left out, let me know so I can update my list!
Good luck Daycare hunting! This is how we knew his first day went awesome

Something I didn’t ask until we signed up is about microwaves and refrigerators. This helps prepare lunches and snacks. Which is another point. Does the place provide snacks and/or lunches and what time are these meals served? Are leftovers sent home so you can assess how much your child ate that day or is it communicated with parents in another form or fashion? We used to have meltdowns on the way home because we were so hungry but didn’t know it. One more thing is to ask about contractual obligations. If you sign up for a year but your child absolutely hates it there can you withdraw without any issues? We had to sign a contract a contract a year in advance which was a bummer because anything can happen.
I know I said just one thing but I thought these may held..
Thanks Filpa..these are great questions and will add them to my list. I have found many parents who struggle with really understanding how much their child really eats at school…but letting the teacher know it’s important that you know is good so they can make sure and focus on that part when they write their daily reports. Also even though schools have microwaves and refrigerators..all schools have different rules on what class can use them so it’s important to ask! Great feedback!
